STAFF REPORTER | THE HINDU | BANGALORE, September 2, 2012 :: The Bangalore Police said on Saturday that Ubed-ur-Rahman (21), whom they arrested in Hyderabad on Friday, was allegedly plotting to kill three councillors of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation including a prominent Hindutva leader.
Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothiprakash Mirji, however, dismissed media reports that some vital installations were on the radar of the accused. “Some personalities from Hindutva organisations were the only targets as per our investigation so far.”
Mr. Mirji said the Maharashtra police, who arrested four men in Nanded, were acting independently. He however, did not rule out links between those arrested in Nanded and the 12 arrested by the Bangalore police. Asked if the Nanded arrests were carried out on information provided by them, Mr. Mirji said, “We had no such information. The Maharashtra police have to answer.”
With the Hyderabad arrest, the number of people held by the Bangalore police on terror charges has gone up to 12.
Stating that Interpol’s help might be taken if necessary, Mr. Mirji said those arrested were taking orders from people based in Saudi Arabia.
The police, he clarified, had not said that the accused belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba or the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami. “The accused claimed that they belonged to both these organisations. We still have to verify their claims.” Read details here......

Terror probe widens, five more suspects arrested
Zeenews Bureau| Munbai | Saturday, September 01, 2012 :: The arrest of 11 terror suspects having links with the Lashkar-e-Toiba and HuJI in Karnataka earlier this week appears to have provided vital leads to security agencies.
Five more terror suspects are reported to have been picked up over the past two days, in connection with the Bangalore terror module.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested four terror suspects from Nanded district, while a Hyderabad student was also held in connection with the same case.
"We have arrested four persons, who have links with the terror suspects arrested in Bangalore," ATS chief Rakesh Maria said. However, Maria refused to divulge any further details.

The student arrested in Hyderabad has been identified as Obaid Rehman (26).

According to police sources, following the arrest of the terror suspects in Bangalore by the local police, they had shared some information with Maharashtra ATS officials, which has resulted in the arrest of these four in Nanded.

The four suspects were picked up from various parts of Nanded district in south-east Maharashtra since past two days following a tip-off about their possible involvement in terror activities.

In a major operation two days back, Bangalore Police had arrested 11 persons, including a DRDO scientist and a journalist, with suspected links to LeT and HuJI and claimed to have foiled their plot to target MPs, MLAs and media persons in Karnataka.  Read details here......
